Man using a computerWith almost all businesses today dependent on relevant technologies, a career in information technology can be lucrative. Unfortunately, many people are selling these services in the market that it’s hard to stand out from the competition. From constantly educating yourself to taking an A+ practice test, here are three things you can do that will up your value in the field.

Education

One of the truths every IT professional needs to accept is that the field is constantly evolving. Every day, new technologies emerge and older ones are rendered obsolete. To remain bankable, you need to keep yourself updated. More often than not, this includes classes and certifications. Those on a budget, however, can turn to credible videos on the Internet to advance their knowledge more conveniently.

Certification

Another recourse is to get certified by CompTIA or the Computing Technology Industry Association. Founded in 1982, it’s a trade group that sets quality guidelines to ensure quality work. It’s a tough certification test that you can prepare for with an A+ practice test. This will help you to pass that test and get the certification that many companies rely on for quality assurance.

Network

Another great way to grow is to interface and connect with your peers. This serves as much the same purpose as the first item on this list with the added benefit of potentially getting to expand your client base as well. Networking is relevant in any field but more so in IT where there are many clients to be had across your city, and other professionals might help you to better connect with these clients.

Follow these three tips and you can be sure to enjoy the fruits of a very lucrative career in an ever-evolving and expanding field.

Men's bootsCowboy boots have been around for quite some time. Men who rode horses originally wore them. They preferred boots that had a bit of a heel. Nowadays, this type of shoes is now shown in many Texas boot stores and is a great fashion statement.

However, have you ever heard of stories lies behind the boots that many people wear? Here are a few fun facts you might not have known about these Western shoes.

Wrinkle

Do you ever wonder how certain things have names — like how the plastic at the end of shoelaces are “aglets”? We also call the stitching on the top of the toes of cowboy boots “toe wrinkles.”

It started at around 1900s, and it was to add a decorative touch to where the shoe normally wrinkles, hence the name. Many shoes still have this stitching to this day, all thanks to boots.

How It Started

It was in the 1870s that a cowboy had the amazing idea of creating the beginnings of the sleek and versatile cowboy boot that we know and love today. He decided to bring his regular boots to a shoemaker and make some requests to make it better for horseback riding.

He wanted a pointed toe (to easily slip into the stirrup), more protection for his leg, and a thicker heel. It began with the purpose of functionality, then slowly became more fashionable.

The Material

Calfskin is the most commonly used material to make boots. It withstands wear and tear well, making it a prime option for anyone who wants to sport it.

However, manufacturers use a variety of other materials as well, such as horsehide and kangaroo skin. They can also be more exotic, especially when it comes to formal boots, with leathers made from alligator or ostrich skin.

Now that you know some of these facts about the good ol’ Western boot, you can slip them on and know what history it has been through to become what it is today.

laptop on deskWhen the admissions board receives your application for an MBA, they will look at your social media posts. The good news is your LinkedIn might have the most weight in their decision. The better news is that you can do something to improve your chances.

To pass admissions for an MBA in Singapore, the board will be looking for traits such as consistency across your online accounts.

Do you appear as your application reads? How does your LinkedIn fit in with your personality? Will you represent the school well if they pick you? Here are some things you can do on LinkedIn to stand a better chance in admissions.

1. Get appropriate recommendations.

LinkedIn is your professional representation. Your recommendations matter. However, soliciting for recommendations can be difficult, and people often tend to only ask their friends.

Unless your friend is an expert in the field you want to pursue, avoid asking their recommendation. People who have supervised you are better qualified when it comes to recommendations on LinkedIn.

2. Include achievements you can quantify.

Do not write statements such as “I developed discipline.” It is much better to weave metrics that are quantifiable into your profile. For example, highlight how much you increased revenues of the organisation you worked at. Cite accolades and awards you have received.

3. Engage the community of your target school.

It is wise to follow the school you hope to join. Be keen to read their posts to get insights into how they operate. As an extra benefit, you will be able to research the programme and keep posted on any announcement relevant to you as an applicant.

While LinkedIn is a professional platform, it is also a social media platform. You can’t ignore the success social media offers. Interact with people and groups that lead conversations in your target areas. It will give you an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and set yourself apart.
